The core VM already knows about VM_FAULT_SIGBUS, but cannot return a "you should SIGSEGV" error, because the SIGSEGV case was generally handled by the caller - usually the architecture fault handler. That results in lots of duplication - all the architecture fault handlers end up doing very similar "look up vma, check permissions, do retries etc" - but it generally works. However, there are cases where the VM actually wants to SIGSEGV, and applications _expect_ SIGSEGV. In particular, when accessing the stack guard page, libsigsegv expects a SIGSEGV. And it usually got one, because the stack growth is handled by that duplicated architecture fault handler. However, when the generic VM layer started propagating the error return from the stack expansion in commit fee7e49d4514 ("mm: propagate error from stack expansion even for guard page"), that now exposed the existing VM_FAULT_SIGBUS result to user space. And user space really expected SIGSEGV, not SIGBUS. To fix that case, we need to add a VM_FAULT_SIGSEGV, and teach all those duplicate architecture fault handlers about it. They all already have the code to handle SIGSEGV, so it's about just tying that new return value to the existing code, but it's all a bit annoying. This is the mindless minimal patch to do this. A more extensive patch would be to try to gather up the mostly shared fault handling logic into one generic helper routine, and long-term we really should do that cleanup. Just from this patch, you can generally see that most architectures just copied (directly or indirectly) the old x86 way of doing things, but in the meantime that original x86 model has been improved to hold the VM semaphore for shorter times etc and to handle VM_FAULT_RETRY and other "newer" things, so it would be a good idea to bring all those improvements to the generic case and teach other architectures about them too. The inb/outb macros for CRIS are broken from a number of points of view, missing () around parameters and they have an unprotected if statement in them. This was breaking the compile of IPMI on CRIS and thus I was being annoyed by build regressions, so I fixed them. Plus I don't think they would have worked at all, since the data values were missing "&" and the outsl had a "3" instead of a "4" for the size. From what I can tell, this stuff is not used at all, so this can't be any more broken than it was before, anyway. Flag (2) is simply the combination of (1) and (3) and can be eliminated. This patch accomplishes the following: * eliminate NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB (i.e., flag (2)) * move NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT (i.e., flag (1)) to bbm.h It's important to note that because (1) and (3) are now both found in bbm.h, they should NOT be used in the "nand_chip.options" field. I removed a small section from the mtdnand DocBook because it referes to NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT in nand.h, which has been moved to bbm.h. This patches moves the code that includes asm-generic/atomic*.h to linux/atomic.h. Archs that need <asm-generic/atomic64.h> need to select CONFIG_GENERIC_ATOMIC64 from now on (some of them used to include it unconditionally). Compile tested on i386 and x86_64 with allnoconfig. The rest I have looked at closely and I can't find any problems. setns is an easy system call to wire up. It just takes two ints so I don't expect any weird architecture porting problems. While doing this I have noticed that we have some architectures that are very slow to get new system calls. cris seems to be the slowest where the last system calls wired up were preadv and pwritev. avr32 is weird in that recvmmsg was wired up but never declared in unistd.h. frv is behind with perf_event_open being the last syscall wired up. On h8300 the last system call wired up was epoll_wait. On m32r the last system call wired up was fallocate. mn10300 has recvmmsg as the last system call wired up. The calculation of the former depends on the alignment of percpu output section in the kernel image. The linker script macros PERCPU_VADDR() and PERCPU() are used to define this output section and the latter takes @align parameter. Several architectures are using @align smaller than PAGE_SIZE breaking percpu memory alignment. This patch removes @align parameter from PERCPU(), renames it to PERCPU_SECTION() and makes it always align to PAGE_SIZE. While at it, add PCPU_SETUP_BUG_ON() checks such that alignment problems are reliably detected and remove percpu alignment comment recently added in workqueue.c as the condition would trigger BUG way before reaching there. For um, this patch raises the alignment of percpu area. As the area is in .init, there shouldn't be any noticeable difference. This problem was discovered by David Howells while debugging boot failure on mn10300. NOTE! This merge commit was created to fix compilation error. The block tree was merged upstream and removed the 'elv_queue_empty()' function which the new 'mtdswap' driver is using. So a simple merge of the mtd tree with upstream does not compile. And the mtd tree has already be published, so re-basing it is not an option. To fix this unfortunate situation, I had to merge upstream into the mtd-2.6.git tree without committing, put the fixup patch on top of this, and then commit this. The result is that we do not have commits which do not compile. In other words, this merge commit "merges" 3 things: the MTD tree, the upstream tree, and the fixup patch.
