* [S390] s390mach compile warningMartin Schwidefsky2008-05-071-1/+2

* [S390] cio: replace subchannel evaluation queue with bitmapPeter Oberparleiter2007-04-271-18/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | Use a bitmap for indicating which subchannels require evaluation instead of allocating memory for each evaluation request. This approach reduces memory consumption during recovery in case of massive evaluation request occurrence and removes the need for memory allocation failure handling. * [S390] ETR support.Martin Schwidefsky2007-02-051-2/+15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch adds support for clock synchronization to an external time reference (ETR). The external time reference sends an oscillator signal and a synchronization signal every 2^20 microseconds to keep the TOD clocks of all connected servers in sync. For availability two ETR units can be connected to a machine. If the clock deviates for more than the sync-check tolerance all cpus get a machine check that indicates that the clock is out of sync. For the lovely details how to get the clock back in sync see the code below. Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>

* [PATCH] replace cad_pid by a struct pidCedric Le Goater2006-10-021-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There are a few places in the kernel where the init task is signaled. The ctrl+alt+del sequence is one them. It kills a task, usually init, using a cached pid (cad_pid). This patch replaces the pid_t by a struct pid to avoid pid wrap around problem. The struct pid is initialized at boot time in init() and can be modified through systctl with /proc/sys/kernel/cad_pid [ I haven't found any distro using it ? ] It also introduces a small helper routine kill_cad_pid() which is used where it seemed ok to use cad_pid instead of pid 1. * [S390] Inline assembly cleanup.Martin Schwidefsky2006-09-281-44/+49
| | | | | | | | | | | | Major cleanup of all s390 inline assemblies. They now have a common coding style. Quite a few have been shortened, mainly by using register asm variables. Use of the EX_TABLE macro helps as well. The atomic ops, bit ops and locking inlines new use the Q-constraint if a newer gcc is used. That results in slightly better code. Thanks to Christian Borntraeger for proof reading the changes. Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>

* [S390] path grouping and path verifications fixes.Cornelia Huck2006-07-121-0/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 1. Multipath devices for which SetPGID is not supported are not handled well. Use NOP ccws for path verification (sans path grouping) when SetPGID is not supported. 2. Check for PGIDs already set with SensePGID on _all_ paths (not just the first one) and try to find a common one. Moan if no common PGID can be found (and use NOP verification). If no PGIDs have been set, use the css global PGID (as before). (Rationale: SetPGID will get a command reject if the PGID it tries to set does not match the already set PGID.) 3. Immediately before reboot, issue RESET CHANNEL PATH (rcp) on all chpids. This will remove the old PGIDs. rcp will generate solicited CRWs which can be savely ignored by the machine check handler (all other actions create unsolicited CRWs). * [PATCH] lockdep: s390 turn validator off in machine-check handlerHeiko Carstens2006-07-031-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Machine checks on s390 are always enabled (except in the machine check handler itself). Therefore use lockdep_off()/on() in the machine check handler to avoid deadlocks in the lock validator. * [PATCH] s390: fix ipd handlingHeiko Carstens2006-05-011-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | As pointed out by Paulo Marques <pmarques@grupopie.com> MAX_IPD_TIME is by a factor of ten too small. Since this means that we allow ten times more IPDs in the intended time frame this could result in a cpu check stop of a physical cpu. * [PATCH] s390: instruction processing damage handlingHeiko Carstens2006-04-281-5/+28
| | | | | | | | | | | | | In case of an instruction processing damage (IPD) machine check in kernel mode the resulting action is always to stop the kernel. This is not necessarily the best solution since a retry of the failing instruction might succeed. Add logic to retry the instruction if no more than 30 instruction processing damage checks occured in the last 5 minutes. | | | | | | | | | | Sanitize some s390 Kconfig options. We have ARCH_S390, ARCH_S390X, ARCH_S390_31, 64BIT, S390_SUPPORT and COMPAT. Replace these 6 options by S390, 64BIT and COMPAT. * [PATCH] s390: multiple subchannel sets supportCornelia Huck2006-01-061-14/+42
| | | | | | | | | | | | Add support for multiple subchannel sets. Works with arbitrary devices in subchannel set 1 and is transparent to device drivers. Although currently only two subchannel sets are available, this will work with the architectured maximum number of subchannel sets as well. * [PATCH] s390: machine check handler bugsMartin Schwidefsky2005-09-051-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The new machine check handler still has a few bugs. 1) The system entry time has to be stored in the machine check handler, 2) the machine check return psw may not be stored at the usual place because it might overwrite the return psw of the interrupted context, 3) the return address for the call to s390_handle_mcck in the i/o interrupt handler is not correct, 4) the system call cleanup has to take the different save area of the machine check handler into account, 5) the machine check handler may not call UPDATE_VTIME before CREATE_STACK_FRAME, and 6) the io leave path needs a critical section cleanup to make sure that the TIF_MCCK_PENDING bit is really checked before switching back to user space. * [PATCH] s390: improved machine check handlingHeiko Carstens2005-06-251-34/+287
| | | | | | | | | | Improved machine check handling. Kernel is now able to receive machine checks while in kernel mode (system call, interrupt and program check handling). Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
