* xfs: use doalloc flag in xfs_qm_dqattach_one()Mitsuo Hayasaka2011-11-261-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | commit db3e74b582915d66e10b0c73a62763418f54c340 upstream The doalloc arg in xfs_qm_dqattach_one() is a flag that indicates whether a new area to handle quota information will be allocated if needed. Originally, it was passed to xfs_qm_dqget(), but has been removed by the following commit (probably by mistake): commit 8e9b6e7fa4544ea8a0e030c8987b918509c8ff47 Author: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Date: Sun Feb 8 21:51:42 2009 +0100 xfs: remove the unused XFS_QMOPT_DQLOCK flag As the result, xfs_qm_dqget() called from xfs_qm_dqattach_one() never allocates the new area even if it is needed. This patch gives the doalloc arg to xfs_qm_dqget() in xfs_qm_dqattach_one() to fix this problem. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | commit 17b38471c3c07a49f0bbc2ecc2e92050c164e226 upstream We need to check for pinned buffers even in .iop_pushbuf given that inode items flush into the same buffers that may be pinned directly due operations on the unlinked inode list operating directly on buffers. * xfs: more sensible inode refcounting for iallocChristoph Hellwig2011-02-221-7/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently we return iodes from xfs_ialloc with just a single reference held. But we need two references, as one is dropped during transaction commit and the second needs to be transfered to the VFS. Change xfs_ialloc to use xfs_iget plus xfs_trans_ijoin_ref to grab two references to the inode, and remove the now superflous IHOLD calls from all callers. This also greatly simplifies the error handling in xfs_create and also allow to remove xfs_trans_iget as no other callers are left. * xfs: fix dquot shaker deadlockDave Chinner2011-01-281-25/+21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 368e136 ("xfs: remove duplicate code from dquot reclaim") fails to unlock the dquot freelist when the number of loop restarts is exceeded in xfs_qm_dqreclaim_one(). This causes hangs in memory reclaim. Rework the loop control logic into an unwind stack that all the different cases jump into. This means there is only one set of code that processes the loop exit criteria, and simplifies the unlocking of all the items from different points in the loop. It also fixes a double increment of the restart counter from the qi_dqlist_lock case. * xfs: don't use vfs writeback for pure metadata modificationsDave Chinner2010-10-181-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Under heavy multi-way parallel create workloads, the VFS struggles to write back all the inodes that have been changed in age order. The bdi flusher thread becomes CPU bound, spending 85% of it's time in the VFS code, mostly traversing the superblock dirty inode list to separate dirty inodes old enough to flush. We already keep an index of all metadata changes in age order - in the AIL - and continued log pressure will do age ordered writeback without any extra overhead at all. If there is no pressure on the log, the xfssyncd will periodically write back metadata in ascending disk address offset order so will be very efficient. Hence we can stop marking VFS inodes dirty during transaction commit or when changing timestamps during transactions. This will keep the inodes in the superblock dirty list to those containing data or unlogged metadata changes. However, the timstamp changes are slightly more complex than this - there are a couple of places that do unlogged updates of the timestamps, and the VFS need to be informed of these. Hence add a new function xfs_trans_ichgtime() for transactional changes, and leave xfs_ichgtime() for the non-transactional changes. * xfs: stop using xfs_qm_dqtobp in xfs_qm_dqflushChristoph Hellwig2010-10-181-88/+76
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In xfs_qm_dqflush we know that q_blkno must be initialized already from a previous xfs_qm_dqread. So instead of calling xfs_qm_dqtobp we can simply read the quota buffer directly. This also saves us from a duplicate xfs_qm_dqcheck call check and allows xfs_qm_dqtobp to be simplified now that it is always called for a newly initialized inode. In addition to that properly unwind all locks in xfs_qm_dqflush when xfs_qm_dqcheck fails. This mirrors a similar cleanup in the inode lookup done earlier. * xfs: simplify xfs_qm_dqusage_adjustChristoph Hellwig2010-10-181-142/+61
| | | | | | | | | | | | | There is no need to have the users and group/project quota locked at the same time. Get rid of xfs_qm_dqget_noattach and just do a xfs_qm_dqget inside xfs_qm_quotacheck_dqadjust for the quota we are operating on right now. The new version of xfs_qm_quotacheck_dqadjust holds the inode lock over it's operations, which is not a problem as it simply increments counters and there is no concern about log contention during mount time. For the case where we want to hold a reference on the inode a xfs_trans_ijoin_ref wrapper is added which does the IHOLD and marks the inode for needing an xfs_iput. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently we track log item descriptor belonging to a transaction using a complex opencoded chunk allocator. This code has been there since day one and seems to work around the lack of an efficient slab allocator. This patch replaces it with dynamically allocated log item descriptors from a dedicated slab pool, linked to the transaction by a linked list. This allows to greatly simplify the log item descriptor tracking to the point where it's just a couple hundred lines in xfs_trans.c instead of a separate file. The external API has also been simplified while we're at it - the xfs_trans_add_item and xfs_trans_del_item functions to add/ delete items from a transaction have been simplified to the bare minium, and the xfs_trans_find_item function is replaced with a direct dereference of the li_desc field. All debug code walking the list of log items in a transaction is down to a simple list_for_each_entry. Note that we could easily use a singly linked list here instead of the double linked list from list.h as the fastpath only does deletion from sequential traversal. But given that we don't have one available as a library function yet I use the list.h functions for simplicity.
