* [NET] NETNS: Omit net_device->nd_net without CONFIG_NET_NS.YOSHIFUJI Hideaki2008-03-261-2/+2
| | | | | | | | Introduce per-net_device inlines: dev_net(), dev_net_set(). Without CONFIG_NET_NS, no namespace other than &init_net exists. Let's explicitly define them to help compiler optimizations. Signed-off-by: YOSHIFUJI Hideaki <yoshfuji@linux-ipv6.org>
* [IPX]: Use proc_create() to setup ->proc_fops firstWang Chen2008-02-281-7/+4
| | | | | | | | Use proc_create() to make sure that ->proc_fops be setup before gluing PDE to main tree. Signed-off-by: Wang Chen <wangchen@cn.fujitsu.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [NET]: Simple ctl_table to ctl_path conversions.Pavel Emelyanov2008-01-281-19/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | This patch includes many places, that only required replacing the ctl_table-s with appropriate ctl_paths and call register_sysctl_paths(). Nothing special was done with them. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [IPX]: Use existing sock refcnt debugging infrastructurePavel Emelyanov2007-11-101-18/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | Just like in the af_packet.c, the ipx_sock_nr variable is used for debugging purposes. Switch to using existing infrastructure. Thanks to Arnaldo for pointing this out. * [NET]: Forget the zero_it argument of sk_alloc()Pavel Emelyanov2007-11-011-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Finally, the zero_it argument can be completely removed from the callers and from the function prototype. Besides, fix the checkpatch.pl warnings about using the assignments inside if-s. This patch is rather big, and it is a part of the previous one. I splitted it wishing to make the patches more readable. Hope this particular split helped. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.Eric W. Biederman2007-10-101-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch makes most of the generic device layer network namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a network namespace variable, and then it picks up a few associated variables. The functions: dev_getbyhwaddr dev_getfirsthwbytype dev_get_by_flags dev_get_by_name __dev_get_by_name dev_get_by_index __dev_get_by_index dev_ioctl dev_ethtool dev_load wireless_process_ioctl were modified to take a network namespace argument, and deal with it. vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their hooks will receive a network namespace argument. So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces. For now the ifindex generator is left global. Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else we will have corner case problems with migration when we get that far. At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when you change namespaces, and the like. Signed-off-by: Eric W. * [NET]: Make device event notification network namespace safeEric W. Biederman2007-10-101-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Every user of the network device notifiers is either a protocol stack or a pseudo device. If a protocol stack that does not have support for multiple network namespaces receives an event for a device that is not in the initial network namespace it quite possibly can get confused and do the wrong thing. To avoid problems until all of the protocol stacks are converted this patch modifies all netdev event handlers to ignore events on devices that are not in the initial network namespace. As the rest of the code is made network namespace aware these checks can be removed. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [NET]: Make packet reception network namespace safeEric W. Biederman2007-10-101-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch modifies every packet receive function registered with dev_add_pack() to drop packets if they are not from the initial network namespace. This should ensure that the various network stacks do not receive packets in a anything but the initial network namespace until the code has been converted and is ready for them. * [NET]: Make socket creation namespace safe.Eric W. Biederman2007-10-101-2/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch passes in the namespace a new socket should be created in and has the socket code do the appropriate reference counting. By virtue of this all socket create methods are touched. In addition the socket create methods are modified so that they will fail if you attempt to create a socket in a non-default network namespace. Failing if we attempt to create a socket outside of the default network namespace ensures that as we incrementally make the network stack network namespace aware we will not export functionality that someone has not audited and made certain is network namespace safe. Allowing us to partially enable network namespaces before all of the exotic protocols are supported. Any protocol layers I have missed will fail to compile because I now pass an extra parameter into the socket creation code. * [NET]: Make /proc/net per network namespaceEric W. Biederman2007-10-101-3/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch makes /proc/net per network namespace. It modifies the global variables proc_net and proc_net_stat to be per network namespace. The proc_net file helpers are modified to take a network namespace argument, and all of their callers are fixed to pass &init_net for that argument. This ensures that all of the /proc/net files are only visible and usable in the initial network namespace until the code behind them has been updated to be handle multiple network namespaces. Making /proc/net per namespace is necessary as at least some files in /proc/net depend upon the set of network devices which is per network namespace, and even more files in /proc/net have contents that are relevant to a single network namespace. * Fix incorrect prototype for ipxrtr_route_packet()David Woodhouse2007-05-171-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | The function ipxrtr_route_packet() takes a 'len' argument of type size_t. However, its prototype in af_ipx.c incorrectly suggests that the corresponding argument is of type 'int' instead. Discovered by building with --combine and letting the compiler see it all at once. * [SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_reset_transport_header(skb)Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-252-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | For the common, open coded 'skb->h.raw = skb->data' operation, so that we can later turn skb->h.raw into a offset, reducing the size of struct sk_buff in 64bit land while possibly keeping it as a pointer on 32bit. This one touches just the most simple cases: skb->h.raw = skb->data; skb->h.raw = {skb_push|[__]skb_pull}() The next ones will handle the slightly more "complex" cases. * [NET]: convert network timestamps to ktime_tEric Dumazet2007-04-251-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We currently use a special structure (struct skb_timeval) and plain 'struct timeval' to store packet timestamps in sk_buffs and struct sock. This has some drawbacks : - Fixed resolution of micro second. - Waste of space on 64bit platforms where sizeof(struct timeval)=16 I suggest using ktime_t that is a nice abstraction of high resolution time services, currently capable of nanosecond resolution. As sizeof(ktime_t) is 8 bytes, using ktime_t in 'struct sock' permits a 8 byte shrink of this structure on 64bit architectures. Some other structures also benefit from this size reduction (struct ipq in ipv4/ip_fragment.c, struct frag_queue in ipv6/reassembly.c, ...) Once this ktime infrastructure adopted, we can more easily provide nanosecond resolution on top of it. (ioctl SIOCGSTAMPNS and/or SO_TIMESTAMPNS/SCM_TIMESTAMPNS) Note : this patch includes a bug correction in compat_sock_get_timestamp() where a "err = 0;" was missing (so this syscall returned -ENOENT instead of 0) Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> CC: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@linux-foundation.org> CC: John find <linux.kernel@free.fr> Signed-off-by: David S. * [PATCH] sysctl: remove insert_at_head from register_sysctlEric W. Biederman2007-02-141-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The semantic effect of insert_at_head is that it would allow new registered sysctl entries to override existing sysctl entries of the same name. Which is pain for caching and the proc interface never implemented. I have done an audit and discovered that none of the current users of register_sysctl care as (excpet for directories) they do not register duplicate sysctl entries. So this patch simply removes the support for overriding existing entries in the sys_sysctl interface since no one uses it or cares and it makes future enhancments harder. Signed-off-by: Eric W. * [IPX]: Annotate and fix IPX checksumAl Viro2006-11-052-14/+21
| | | | | | | | | | | | Calculation of IPX checksum got buggered about 2.4.0. The old variant mangled the packet; that got fixed, but calculation itself got buggered. Restored the correct logics, fixed a subtle breakage we used to have even back then: if the sum is 0 mod 0xffff, we want to return 0, not 0xffff. The latter has special meaning for IPX (cheksum disabled). Observation (and obvious fix) nicked from history of FreeBSD ipx_cksum.c... | | | | | | | | | | | | Fix kernel oopses whenever somebody issues compatible ioctl on AppleTalk, Econet, IPX or IRDA socket. For AppleTalk/Econet/IRDA it restores state in which these sockets were before compat_ioctl was introduced to the socket ops, for IPX it implements support for 4 ioctls which were not implemented before - as these ioctls use structures which match between 32bit and 64bit userspace, no special code is needed, just call 64bit ioctl handler. * [NET]: move struct proto_ops to constEric Dumazet2006-01-031-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I noticed that some of 'struct proto_ops' used in the kernel may share a cache line used by locks or other heavily modified data. (default linker alignement is 32 bytes, and L1_CACHE_LINE is 64 or 128 at least) This patch makes sure a 'struct proto_ops' can be declared as const, so that all cpus can share all parts of it without false sharing. This is not mandatory : a driver can still use a read/write structure if it needs to (and eventually a __read_mostly) I made a global stubstitute to change all existing occurences to make them const. This should reduce the possibility of false sharing on SMP, and speedup some socket system calls. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds2005-04-167-0/+2927
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
