The rest I have looked at closely and I can't find any problems. setns is an easy system call to wire up. It just takes two ints so I don't expect any weird architecture porting problems. While doing this I have noticed that we have some architectures that are very slow to get new system calls. cris seems to be the slowest where the last system calls wired up were preadv and pwritev. avr32 is weird in that recvmmsg was wired up but never declared in unistd.h. frv is behind with perf_event_open being the last syscall wired up. On h8300 the last system call wired up was epoll_wait. On m32r the last system call wired up was fallocate. mn10300 has recvmmsg as the last system call wired up. Because byte order of inode and block bitmaps is different on each architecture like below: m68k: big-endian 16bit indexed bitmaps h8300, microblaze, s390, sparc, m68knommu: big-endian 32 or 64bit indexed bitmaps m32r, mips, sh, xtensa: big-endian 32 or 64bit indexed bitmaps for big-endian mode little-endian bitmaps for little-endian mode Others: little-endian bitmaps In order to move minix bit operations from asm/bitops.h to architecture independent code in minix filesystem, this provides two config options. CONFIG_MINIX_FS_BIG_ENDIAN_16BIT_INDEXED is only selected by m68k. CONFIG_MINIX_FS_NATIVE_ENDIAN is selected by the architectures which use native byte order bitmaps (h8300, microblaze, s390, sparc, m68knommu, m32r, mips, sh, xtensa). The architectures which always use little-endian bitmaps do not select these options. Finally, we can remove minix bit operations from asm/bitops.h for all architectures. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The meaning of CONFIG_EMBEDDED has long since been obsoleted; the option is used to configure any non-standard kernel with a much larger scope than only small devices. This patch renames the option to CONFIG_EXPERT in init/Kconfig and fixes references to the option throughout the kernel. A new CONFIG_EMBEDDED option is added that automatically selects CONFIG_EXPERT when enabled and can be used in the future to isolate options that should only be considered for embedded systems (RISC architectures, SLOB, etc). Calling the option "EXPERT" more accurately represents its intention: only expert users who understand the impact of the configuration changes they are making should enable it. However, that whole conversion totally missed the rather obscure code that adds a new module to the list for BUG() handling. That code was doubly obscure because (a) the code itself lives in lib/bugs.c (for dubious reasons) and (b) it gets called from the architecture-specific "module_finalize()" rather than from generic code. Calling it from arch-specific code makes no sense what-so-ever to begin with, and is now actively wrong since that code isn't protected by the module loading lock any more. So this commit moves the "module_bug_{finalize,cleanup}()" calls away from the arch-specific code, and into the generic code - and in the process protects it with the module_mutex so that the list operations are now safe. Future fixups: - move the module list handling code into kernel/module.c where it belongs. - get rid of 'module_bug_list' and just use the regular list of modules (called 'modules' - imagine that) that we already create and maintain for other reasons. Paraphrased from the 1989 BSD patch by David Borman @ cray.com: These are the changes needed for the kernel to support LINEMODE in the server. There is a new bit in the termios local flag word, EXTPROC. When this bit is set, several aspects of the terminal driver are disabled. Input line editing, character echo, and mapping of signals are all disabled. This allows the telnetd to turn off these functions when in linemode, but still keep track of what state the user wants the terminal to be in. New ioctl: TIOCSIG Generate a signal to processes in the current process group of the pty. There is a new mode for packet driver, the TIOCPKT_IOCTL bit. When packet mode is turned on in the pty, and the EXTPROC bit is set, then whenever the state of the pty is changed, the next read on the master side of the pty will have the TIOCPKT_IOCTL bit set. This allows the process on the server side of the pty to know when the state of the terminal has changed; it can then issue the appropriate ioctl to retrieve the new state. Since the original BSD patches accompanied the source code for telnet I've left that reference here, but obviously the feature is useful for any remote terminal protocol, including ssh. The corresponding feature has existed in the BSD tty driver since 1989.
